So, y'all remember the created world fantasy I was working on that wasn't to be called the Napoleonic werewolf book because that would just confuse people who'd then expect an alternative earth which this wasn't, only the tech level being Napoleonic?

Do you remember how when I sold that book I also sold a sequel to THE ENCHANTMENT EMPORIUM (Charlie's story) at the same time? I did tell you about that right? I mean, I could go back and look but I'm pretty sure I told you.

"Not the Napoleonic werewolf" book was supposed to come out in 2011 (2010 book is TRUTH OF VALOR) and Charlie's story was supposed to come out in 2012.

Well, yesterday, I got a call from my agent and he said that given how well THE ENCHANTMENT EMPORIUM was doing and given how much readers seemed to love it, it might be an idea not to make them wait another year for another book. Given that I already had another book available and all. For certain variable definitions of "available" meaning it's there in my head.

And my editor agreed with him. In fact, my editor added the phrase "she'd be thrilled" to the discussion of flipping the two.

So, in conclusion... I am NOW writing Charlie's story to come out in 2011 (no firm idea of the month yet, depends on how fast I move, fall definitely) and "not the Napoleonic werewolf" book will be 2012.

Summing up:

2010 Truth of Valor (#5 Torin Kerr)
2011 Charlie's story (untitled Emporium sequel)
2012 Not the Napoleonic werewolves (currently a standalone)

Any questions? No? Yay. Because I have a book to write four months faster than usual. (write like the wind... only, with more words...)

Looking forward to it!

PS: Saw hsifyppah's piccy of you at SpoCon. I is jealous. I wish I could have gone.

*le sigh*

Well, she's taken worse pictures of me... :)

And I wish you could have gone too!

I know you can do it,Tanya, and you were right! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Heart Of Valor,and...am rather strongly tempted to hide it away from my mom so that I can re-read it whenever I get the urge...still have to find another copy of Sing The Fifth Quarter thanks to my dog attempting to read it with her teeth.*facepalm*
5th-Aug-2010 06:13 pm (UTC)
You're a star! Now, if you could just manage to get to Dragon*con one of these years...
5th-Aug-2010 06:19 pm (UTC)
It's on my bucket list. *g*
5th-Aug-2010 06:13 pm (UTC)
Excited about an Emporium sequel, and secretly hoping there's a just a little bit more exposition/world building to detail how that specific world's magic works, etc.
5th-Aug-2010 06:16 pm (UTC)
Works perfectly for my selfish needs since I am currently reading Enchantment Emporium and have been chomping at the bit waiting for the next Valor book. And then I'll get a new one :). I must have affected fate with my wishes, I hope it didn't mess you up too much ;).
5th-Aug-2010 06:20 pm (UTC)
I'll let you know in a couple of days... *g*

Just picked up The Enchantment Emporium on my lunch break yesterday. Finished it on today's lunch break.
Very entertaining. Thanks for sharing your skills and your stories.
5th-Aug-2010 06:19 pm (UTC)
You're very welcome. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
5th-Aug-2010 06:25 pm (UTC)
I would be sad and all, but given my sorrowful look when you said I had to wait for Charlie's book, there is no sorrow. (This does mean DAW will be putting out our respective soggy installments in the same year. POOL PARTY!)
6th-Aug-2010 11:35 am (UTC)
Go DAW girls! I'm in favour of this idea...
5th-Aug-2010 06:27 pm (UTC)
Whoa. At least the very patient werewolves will have a head start when you get back to them?

For certain variable definitions of "available" meaning it's there in my head.

That is... not a definition of "available" that exists on my planet.

Fortunately, I'm certain that the path between Things What Exist In Tanya's Head and comprehensible English is considerably shorter than the path between Thing What Exist In Val's Head and the same destination.

I am nonetheless sending you lots of virtual caffeine and bubblebath.
6th-Aug-2010 05:27 pm (UTC)
Throw in some caffeinated bubblebath and I'm set... :)
5th-Aug-2010 06:38 pm (UTC)
You mean you can't write a book in 3 months?

::ducks & runs::
5th-Aug-2010 07:01 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that so has the potential to come back and bite me on the ass... *g*
5th-Aug-2010 06:52 pm (UTC)
I'm definitely looking forward to Charlie's story. :)

We talked about you today. *g*

(all good!)
5th-Aug-2010 07:20 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry you're having to work like a mofo now, but I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am that there will be a sequep to Emporium and that IT'S IN THE WORKS RIGHT NOW!!!!!

I'm thinking all kinds of positive writerly thoughts for you to get this done without too much grief.
7th-Aug-2010 02:11 pm (UTC)
Appreciate the postive writerly help! :)

"Do you remember how when I sold that book I also sold a sequel to THE ENCHANTMENT EMPORIUM (Charlie's story) at the same time? I did tell you about that right?"

If you did tell us, I missed it, so now I'm all "EEEEEEE SEQUEL YAYYYYYY!!!"
7th-Aug-2010 02:11 pm (UTC)
Hmmm... it begins to seem like I didn't mention it...
5th-Aug-2010 07:30 pm (UTC)
I can see why they want you to come up with the Emporium sequel - I can't wait. But how very hard on you. I hope it won't be too bad of a strain.
7th-Aug-2010 02:11 pm (UTC)
It's a good problem to have...
5th-Aug-2010 08:01 pm (UTC)
Hey, I happen to be in the middle of reading The Enchantment Emporium these days (that bit about catching up on reading when you have to keep your leg elevated was a very clever, subtle way to get me reading more of your books). Im up to something about $10,000 and pie being the embodiment of not sucky. And from what little I've seen of Charlie so far, I already want to read a book about her.

In other words, YAY!
7th-Aug-2010 02:12 pm (UTC)
All for you, Peter... :)
5th-Aug-2010 08:06 pm (UTC)
I can really apppreciate a writer who pays attention to the people with the cash register--who are paying attention to the rest of us. It's the "artistes" who insist on only doing things their own way who put the word "starving" into the expression. . .
6th-Aug-2010 12:23 am (UTC)
Don't tell Van Gogh. Or Bach.

p.s. I ended up being sensible, and not adding to my Epic Drive by going to Kingston on the way to Ithaca from Montreal.
5th-Aug-2010 09:14 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry that you'll have to write so fast now, but I'm excited to hear that the new "Emporium" book will be released a year earlier. I'm looking forward to getting to know more about that world. Best wishes... ^_^

Well...Yay!...I think. Mind, just yesterday I told a customer who was buying Novik's latest HC about the "not-the-Napoleonic werewolves" book and how it would be out next year and that I was really looking forward to it and she should check it out too. She wasn't a regular so I may/may not ever see her again.

OTOH one of my favorite regular customers will be as excited as me about the Charlie book!!!!

And just an FYI, we received a dump of the Valor books today which I noticed when I stopped in on my day off (there's AC there, not so much here in the house). I shall relocate it front-of-storewards when I'm there tomorrow. :)

Ciao, Melissa
6th-Aug-2010 05:30 pm (UTC)
Werewolves next. I promise.

Thanks for relocating of dump!

write like the wind...

Just don't write like a leaf on the wind, because then as soon as you finish the book you'll suffer a random and arbitrary injury. (It is probably a good thing that doesn't happen to authors as often as it happens to their characters.)

6th-Aug-2010 05:31 pm (UTC)
Random and fatal... I think I'll skip the leaf part.
5th-Aug-2010 10:28 pm (UTC)
I'm reading the Enchanted Emporium now so very pleased to read there will be more in the series. I'm looking forward to it.
6th-Aug-2010 05:32 pm (UTC)
I'm always happy to hear that!
5th-Aug-2010 10:32 pm (UTC)
So cool!!!

Enchantment emporium has just come out on audible at a really great price and I'm looking forward to buying it...
6th-Aug-2010 05:32 pm (UTC)
Yay, the audible is out! Glad to hear you're looking forward to it.

Excellent! I really liked the Enchantment Emporium, and look forward to more set in that world.

Oh, wonderful! I just finished The Enchantment Emporium yesterday, and really enjoyed it - and I was hoping there would be more in that world, since there seemed to be all sorts of things left to explore.
6th-Aug-2010 05:33 pm (UTC)
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! That's a help in getting up to speed.
